A lot of people who are new to art journaling are not used to writing down their thoughts and emotions.
Try this exercise in your art journal. Think about something in your life that’s stressing you out or has you worried, or that you are grateful for or love, and freewrite (write every single thing that comes into your head without thinking about it) for 5 minutes. Use multiple pages in your journal if you need to. This is about finding your truth without censoring yourself. So many people censor themselves because they think what they have to say is not important or no one cares. In YOUR art journal, YOU are important and YOU care, so be honest.
Remember, you can always cover over all of those emotions with layers of gesso, paint, stamps, collage, etc., hiding your emotions from the rest of the world, but revealing your truth to yourself.
Freewriting is so….well…freeing!
