It sucks getting old. No, really. Okay, so you’ll probably hit me when I tell you this, but I’m turning 30 tomorrow and it hurts already. I feel like I should be carrying a cane and walking with my back bent at a 90 degree angle. While I may be ever-so-slightly dramatic, I am not thrilled at the impending loss of my youth. As such, I’m going to do an art journal page (hopefully) reflecting my feelings toward turning 30 and figured I could at least post an art journal prompt which would inspire my little Imps to make something FAAAABULOUS! Since the vast abyss of my aging years is staring me in the face, I figure black would be a great place to start with my own page.
Art Journal Prompt: Use black gesso as the base of your page.
Black gesso is awesome. It’s super dark, extremely matte, and challenges you to think about how you’re going to use color. As most student-grade acrylics (such as Liquitex Basics or Artist’s Loft) are not very opaque, this will force you to think about how you want to apply color. Most likely, white gesso will be needed to create a foundation for light colors. Having to stop and think about how you need to apply colors can really get your mind working and make you think about colors in a whole new way.
LOL! Happy Birthday! My 30s have been the best decade yet!
So far, so good, but I’m only a week in! hahahaha! Hugs, Aaron
Birthday advice I wish I would have listened to: If you really want to do something, don’t wait to do it in the future when you have the time and/or money. Find a way to do it now if you can!
I’m working on it! As soon as my kid is in public school (August of 2014), I should be rolling in dough! His school is SOOOOO expensive! Thanks for the words of wisdom! Paris is a little closer on the horizon for me now!
